One of the simplest things a corporation can do is create warning banners telling hackers that their traffic is being monitored, and that the corporation intends to prosecute if they catch anybody hacking.
In some cases this "dares" the hackers to attack, but in many cases it serves as an effective deterrent. Many hacks, especially web site defacing, occur because the hackers believe they will not be caught.
