Squid is one of the most popular proxy servers. It is provided as part of many Linux distributions.

Squid is considered be one of the faster proxies, providing full caching for web queries. It also supports the FTP and Gopher protocols as well as HTTP. It also caches the DNS lookups, removing that delay from the process.

The configuration file is squid.conf.
