Attacking well-known system defaults is one of the most common hacker attacks. Most software is shipped with a default configuration that make it easy to setup, but which should be changed in order to make the system secure. Examples: - accounts
- Many systems come with default user accounts with well-known passwords that administrators forget to change.
- locations
- Often, the default location of files can be exploited, such as the numerous Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer bugs that allow a hacker to retrieve a file from the disk.
- samples
- Many software packages come with "samples" that can be exploited, such as the sample programs on ColdFusion web services.
