The rpc.rusersd service can be queried to see who is logged into the UNIX machine and for how long. A client program for querying this information is built into most UNIX systems called rusers. There are two ways of running this program. Simply typing in rusers on the command line will broadcast a query to all nearby hosts. Specifying host hame will query more detailed information from just that one machine. Defense This is a dangerous program to leave exposed. It should be turned off within the file /etc/inetd.conf.
